Felix Klein: “Policies that promote a rejection of responsibility for Germany’s Nazi past are completely unacceptable”

The German Government’s Antisemitism Commissioner, Felix Klein, has issued a warning against complacency following the state elections in Thuringia and Saxony.

“The election results in Saxony and Thuringia have depressingly shown that too many citizens, whether out of protest or conviction, are favoring authoritarian, racist attitudes over democratic, liberal values,” Klein said in an interview with the Funke Media Group.

He emphasized that this trend must be taken very seriously and requires thorough examination.

Klein further called for the formation of effective state governments that would reinforce core democratic values. “Policies that promote a rejection of responsibility for Germany’s Nazi past are completely unacceptable, particularly in Thuringia, where the Buchenwald concentration camp memorial stands as one of the most significant memorial sites in Germany,” he stressed.
