Berlin to appoint an Antisemitism Commissioner for all universities in the city

Berlin is set to appoint an Antisemitism Commissioner for all its universities.

The details are still being discussed within the Senate, said Science Senator Ina Czyborra during a press conference at the Rotes Rathaus.

“I hope that we will reach a result in the foreseeable future,” said the SPD politician.

Most recently, the Federal Government’s Antisemitism Commissioner, Felix Klein, had called on the Berlin Senate to appoint a central Antisemitism Commissioner for universities.

“This new post can help clarify such questions,” said the SPD politician. It is also about advising universities on how to deal with antisemitism.

Violence has no place at universities, said Czyborra. Antisemitism must be fought by all available means. “Of course, this is also very much about the safety of Jewish students and Jewish staff at our universities.”
