The demonstration on the occasion of the so-called Al-Quds Day in Berlin has been canceled. The registration for April 15 was withdrawn by the organizers, as a spokeswoman for the Berlin police confirmed.
It is the third time in a row that the organizers have canceled an already registered Al-Quds demonstration . In addition, the event had to be canceled in 2020 due to corona. Previously, fewer participants had come year after year.
Al-Quds Day was proclaimed by the Iranian ayatollah in 1979 after the Islamic revolution in the country and is directed against Israel’s existence. In Germany there have been repeated discussions about banning rallies on the occasion of the day . Anti-Israel and anti-Semitic chants regularly broke out at Al-Quds events.
“The Al-Quds march is dominated by anti-Semitism and hatred of Israel,” said Josef Schuster, President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, in 2021. “The participants unscrupulously exploited the freedom of expression and assembly to spread their hatred.” This must “finally come to an end,” said Schuster.
