A court in the Saxon town of Weißwasser has ordered a police officer to visit the Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial after he posted the Nazi slogan “Alles für Deutschland” (“Everything for Germany”) on WhatsApp and Instagram. The judge issued him a warning and ruled that if he fails to comply with the requirement, the officer will have to pay a fine of 4,200 euros.
According to the case files, the defendant first posted an image with this phrase in his WhatsApp status and later repeated it in a comment on Instagram.
In court, he claimed that he did not consider himself a supporter of right-wing extremism and questioned the very criminality of the formula. In contrast, the prosecution emphasised that such an attitude toward “obviously prohibited symbolism” could not be expected from a police officer.
The judge stated that a trip to Auschwitz could offer the defendant more than a conventional punishment and ordered him to register for a visit to the memorial and complete a guided tour of the former camp grounds within a year.
