Strasbourg: antisemitic graffiti discovered at the Jewish cemetery of Koenigshoffen

An antisemitic tag was discovered at the Jewish cemetery of Koenigshoffen in Strasbourg: an inscription “Allah Akbar” in large pink letters on the totem pole located at the entrance of the site. This defacement was relayed by the Conseil Régional du Culte Musulman (CRCM), which strongly condemned the act: “Using the name of God in any language to deface a cemetery […] is an infamy and a heresy.

The inscription was reported to the CRCM on Thursday 10 June, but it is not known when it was made. This is not the first time a Jewish cemetery has been desecrated in Alsace. On 19 February 2019, nearly 100 graves in the Jewish cemetery of Quatzenheim, west of Strasbourg, were defaced.
