Shoah Memorial in Paris vandalised

The Wall of the Righteous, located at the Shoah Memorial in the 4th arrondissement of Paris, was vandalised, as informed by Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo.

The monument bears the names of more than 3,900 people who helped save Jews during the Second World War.

“I condemn with the greatest firmness these unspeakable acts,” affirmed the mayor of Paris.

Several red hands were tagged on the Wall of the Righteous, as well as on surrounding buildings, according to the elected official.

Yonathan Arfi, president of the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France (Crif), denounced this “despicable” act. “Whatever the perpetrators, this degradation (…) resonates like a hateful rallying cry against the Jews,” he wrote on X.

Anne Hidalgo asked for a police report to be carried out before cleaning the building.

The mayor of Paris also referred the matter to the Paris public prosecutor “under Article 40 of the Code of Criminal Procedure”.
