Man spotted on Paris metro wearing antisemitic jersey triggering police probe and public fury

A man wearing a sports jersey with the inscription “Anti Jew” in French was photographed riding the Paris metro, marking another antisemitic incident in the French capital.

The photo, taken on line 13 at the Saint-François-Xavier station, was shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by Sandrine Sebbane, an editor at RCJ radio station.

“I was alerted due to a picture of a person wearing a shirt decorated with a vicious anti-Jewish inscription on the subway. We are currently conducting tests and identification of this person with RATP (Public Transport Association) teams, to lead to the required criminal proceedings,” President of the Regional Council of Île-de-France Valérie Pécresse said. “Antisemitism has no place in our country.”

The incident comes amid a sharp 400% rise in antisemitic incidents in France. In the first half of 2024 alone, 887 antisemitic incidents were recorded, nearly tripling the 304 reported during the same period in 2023.
