Jewish man assaulted and humiliated in a bus in Paris

A Jewish man was filmed while being assaulted and humiliated on a bus in Paris by conspiracy theorist Léo Nicolian.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Paris has taken up the case. The CRIF (Representative Council of French Jewish Institutions) said it will remain attentive to the progress of the investigation.

The Prosecutor’s Office indicated that its “national center for the fight against online hatred took up this matter on Monday February 19, and is analyzing the elements that [we] have at our disposal for the moment, both from a factual point of view and from a legal point of view.”

For its part, RATP Group, that operates Paris public transport system, reiterated that it condemns “with the greatest firmness any antisemitic act that would be committed on its network or internally”. The agency adds that it also has an ethics alert line to allow employees and travelers to report facts contrary to our values and ethics.

CRIF made a statement condemning the incident:

“This assault once again demonstrates the violence of antisemitism in 2024, which forces a man to leave a bus amidst general indifference.

It also underscores that hatred of Israel is unquestionably a form of antisemitism, by holding Jews accountable for the situation in the Middle East.

Finally, it reminds us that beyond Islamist or far-left circles where antisemitism is particularly active, antisemitism remains present in various spheres of French society, including in conspiracy theorist and far-right circles, where the perpetrator of this assault operates”
