French court fines teacher for antisemitic statements

An English teacher in a Paris school was fined 1,500 euros on Thursday by a court in the capital for writing on social media that Jews prepared and organised the Shoah.

The comments on the teacher’s Facebook page, which she shared with students, were made in 2016. She was subsequently suspended by the school.

The court found that the teacher was guilty of denying crimes against humanity and of racial defamation.

She was also ordered to pay 500 euros in damages and costs to a number of organisations which brought the civil action, including SOS Racisme and the International League Against Racism and Antisemitism (LICRA).

The teacher did not attend the court hearing.
