French couple posthumously honoured by Yad Vashem for saving Jews in WWII

A couple from the Brittany region of north-western France were posthumously awarded the title of Righteous of the Nations in a ceremony on Sunday.

The honour was given to Marie and Guillaume Le Quéré at a ceremony held in Trémel on Sunday. Their granddaughter, Marie-Émilie Charlot, recived the medal on their behalf.

From October 1943 to August 1944, Guillaume Le Quéré, a Protestant pastor in the little village of Trégor, and his wife, Marie, hid and protected the Lévy family from Morbaix in a barn belonging to the local Protestant church.

The number of Righteous of the Nations in the Brittany region is now up to 17, among some 4,000 awarded with the honour in France.
