CRIF commemorates 79th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising

As every year, the CRIF, The Representative Council of Jewish Institutions in France, and the Shoah Memorial organize the commemoration of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.

The ceremony can be followed on Crif’s Facebook page and website on Tuesday 19th of April 18hs.

The commemoration of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising pays a double tribute: first, to the Jewish resistance, and second, to all the victims of the Shoah who did not have the means to take up arms; to all the vulnerable, including the one and a half million children who perished.

Éric de Rothschild, President of the Shoah Memorial and Francis Kalifat, President of the CRIF, will address the participants of the ceremony with opening remarks.

Afterwards, there will be a reading in yiddish of “Song from the Byalistok Ghetto” by the journalist and yiddish teacher Lise Gutman and speeches by H.E. Mrs Yaël German, Ambassador of Israel in France, and Larissa Cain, survivor of the Warsaw ghetto and writer.

At the same time, representatives of the French youth Jewish movements will participate in the ceremony performing a call for resistance, evocating the heroic struggle of Mordechai Anielewicz.

The commemoration will end with a Kadish by Chief Rabbi Olivier Kaufmann and a performance of the Hymn of the Vilnius Ghetto and the Jewish Ressistance by Talila and Teddy Lasry.
