CRIF calls on authorities to take action following spate of antisemitic incidents

The Representative Council of French Jewish Institutions (CRIF), the country’s EJC affiliate, has called on public authorities in France to take immediate action against those attacking Jews.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, CRIF noted that in recent days a number of incidents of an antisemitic character had occurred in the Paris region. These included daubed swastikas and an arson attempt in Créteil, an attack on a young girl in Sarcelles, and antisemitic threats against the synagogue St-Maur.

“These events clearly show a worrying and dangerous climate in our country creating real concern in the Jewish community”, the statement said.

“Only real and effective application of the principle of zero tolerance, coupled with fully dissuasive sanctions, will be able to push back against this feeling of insecurity and concern”, the statement concluded.
