CRIF annual dinner postponed because of coronavirus crisis

The annual dinner of CRIF, the umbrella representative group of Jewish institutions of France and the country’s EJC affiliate, which was due to take place in Paris, “has been postponed because of the exceptional health situation in France caused by the new coronavirus outbreak,’’ the organisation announced.

French President Emmanuel Macron was scheduled to address the dinner which is an annual political event attended by government ministers, lawmakers, diplomats, religious leaders and influential members of civil society.

‘’We have decided, in agreement with the President, to postpone the 35th CRIF dinner,’’ said Francis Kalifat, CRIF President

The continued rise of antisemitism in France – an increase of 27% in 2019 – was due to have been the main topic of the political event, with representatives of Jewish institutions expecting a strong statement from the president.
