Antisemitic assault against rabbi in Lyon reported as he was on his way to synagogue

An antisemitic assault was reported in Lyon after a rabbi was verbally attacked while on his way to the synagogue with a group of children.

The incident occurred in the 1st arrondissement of Lyon. The assailant allegedly made Nazi salutes towards the rabbi and shouted “Free Palestine!” during the confrontation.

The rabbi subsequently filed a formal complaint. Witness accounts cited by Sugy indicate that the individual repeatedly performed Nazi gestures while targeting the religious leader, heightening concerns given the presence of children at the scene.

Authorities have emphasised that the investigation remains ongoing and will seek to clarify both the precise circumstances and the motives behind the attack.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in France, alongside a reported rise in antisemitic acts. French authorities have reiterated their vigilance in responding to all forms of hatred or violence directed at religious communities.
