According to CRIF report, 78% of French people reject the immediate and unconditional recognition of a Palestinian state

The CRIF recently commissioned a study from Ifop titled “The French View on France’s Recognition of a Palestinian State.” The survey was conducted between 11 and 12 June 2025 among a representative sample of 1,000 French adults aged 18 and over.

The findings reveal that 78% of French respondents oppose the immediate and unconditional recognition of a Palestinian state.

Specifically,

  • 47% support recognition only after the release of all hostages held in Gaza and the dismantling of Hamas.
  • 31% oppose any recognition of a Palestinian state in the short term.

In addition,

  • 51% believe that immediate recognition would fuel a rise in antisemitism and lead to an increase in antisemitic acts in France.
  • 50% consider that such recognition would strengthen Hamas’ position.
  • Only 42% think it would contribute to peace in the Middle East.
