Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain presents the book “Key Concepts of Judaism”

The general secretary of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Spain (FCJE), Perla Salama, took part in the presentation of Key Concepts of Judaism at the Centro Sefarad-Israel in Madrid, a meeting that brought together representatives from academia, culture and the Jewish community.

The publication, originally titled Conceptos clave del Judaísmo, is a collective work featuring contributions from 35 authors. Each of them addresses a fundamental notion linked to Judaism, aiming to offer readers a clearer and more accessible understanding of Jewish religion, culture and tradition. Rather than a single narrative voice, the book is structured as a mosaic of perspectives, reflecting the diversity and richness of Jewish thought.

The project has been coordinated by Alfredo Hidalgo, a professor at the Spanish National University of Distance Education (UNED), who has overseen the academic coherence of the volume while preserving the plurality of voices involved. The publishing house Catarata has been responsible for developing and bringing the initiative to completion, consolidating it as a reference work intended for both specialists and the wider public.

During the presentation, attention was drawn to the importance of educational and cultural initiatives of this kind in fostering knowledge and dialogue. The work seeks not only to define key theological and cultural terms, but also to encourage greater familiarity with Judaism within contemporary society, contributing to a more informed public discourse.

The event at the Centro Sefarad-Israel underscored the role of collaborative scholarship in building bridges between communities and in promoting a deeper appreciation of Jewish heritage in Spain.
