In Denmark, for the first time, an influencer has been sentenced to probation for endorsing the deadly Hamas terror of October 7th. The 26-year-old was found guilty by the Copenhagen City Court of expressly endorsing the terrorist attack by the Islamist Hamas.
The court stated on that he had spoken positively about the attack in a post on the Snapchat platform, played music, and danced. He was sentenced to four months of suspended imprisonment with the requirement of completing 100 hours of community service.
According to the news agency Ritzau, this is the first case that a Danish court has examined regarding the endorsement of the Hamas attack. In three other cases, charges have been filed so far.
In the case of the influencer, it concerned a video that the defendant had posted on the Snapchat platform the day after the terrorist act. On Snapchat, users can post short videos for a certain period. In the indictment, the man was accused of speaking positively about the killing of more than 250 civilians at the Supernova music festival in the Israeli Negev Desert, then playing music and dancing.
At that time, about 80,000 people followed him on Snapchat, including children, according to the court. The defendant stated that it was explicitly satire and fun and that he was not interested in politics. He also said that he would not have posted the post online if he had known that it was civilians who were killed at the music festival.
The prosecution, on the other hand, had sought an unconditional prison sentence. They will now consider appealing the verdict.
