Cyprus arrests Hamas member over suspected plot to attack Israeli and Jewish sites in Europe

Border officials in Cyprus arrested a man suspected of being a member of Hamas and illegally transporting ammunition at Larnaca Airport after travelling from Lebanon to Cyprus.

The man, identified by the office as Lebanese-born Kamel M., was suspected of transporting 300 rounds of live ammunition to other individuals also suspected of being Hamas members for the purpose of preparing for “Hamas assassination attacks on Israeli or Jewish institutions in Germany and Europe.”

Kamel M. will be extradited to Germany and brought before a judge for further legal action, the Federal Prosecutors’ Office stated.

Kamel M.’s arrest followed the arrests of two other men, to whom he is suspected of transferring the ammunition.
