Bulgarian Jewish leader awarded with Order of Civil Merit

Dr. Alexander Oscar, the President of Shalom Organisation of Jews in Bulgaria, the country’s EJC affiliate, has been awarded with the Order of Civil Merit by President Rumen Radev for his outstanding achievements for the development of civil society, the protection of human rights and freedoms, and the strengthening of democratic institutions in the Republic of Bulgaria.

Dr. Oscar was proposed for this award by Mayor of Sofia, Mrs. Yordanka Fandakova, the Bulgarian Medical Union, the Bulgarian Society of Ophthalmology and the Bulgarian Alliance of non-governmental organisations in recognition of his merits in the fight against antisemitism and hate speech, and his active contribution to several campaigns aimed at children’s health.
