CCOJB regrets the decision by the Belgian government to continue funding UNRWA

The Comité de Coordination des Organisations Juives de Belgique (CCOJB) published a statement condemning the Belgian government decision to continue funding UNRWA.

“The CCOJB regrets the isolated decision taken on January 31, 2024, by the federal government to maintain its funding for the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA. Unlike major democracies in Europe and around the world, Belgium does not consider that the extreme gravity of the acts attributed to UNRWA, despite its widespread discredit, warrants the suspension of its funding.

The CCOJB notes the dissonance between Belgium’s decision, as the current holder of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and the position of the European Commission, which has suspended its funding and called for an independent audit of the functioning of UNRWA.”
