Belgian Minister of Justice confirms that Hamas uses non-profit organisations to lobby and raise funds in Belgium

The Belgian Minister of Justice Paul Van Tigchelt confirms for the first time that Hamas is active in Belgium through obscure non-profit organisations.

Alarmed by rumors that have been circulating for some time, MP Michael Freilich (N-VA) demanded explanations from the minister.

To his great surprise, the Minister validated his suspicions: Hamas is active in Belgium through several companies.

Although he does not mention these organisations by name (State Security does not communicate on specific files), this is the first time that the minister has declared that the group also operates in Belgium through often obscure structures.

According to Mr Van Tigchelt’s “Hamas’ activities in Belgium focus on lobbying and fundraising.”

Under the guise of supporting the Palestinian cause, the organisations seek to protect and promote the image of Hamas.

The minister emphasizes that to date, in Belgium, no extremist message has been able to be traced to organizations linked to Hamas. But what happens to the money collected or how this lobbying is reflected in reality remains a big question mark for the moment.
