An investigation has been launched following an antisemitic attack on an Austrian brother and sister in Hungary.
Two Romanian citizens were arrested in connection with the assault, which took place at a motorway service station.
The incident occurred at the Babati rest stop on the M3 motorway, located approximately 25 kilometres east of Budapest. According to the police, the 30-year-old Romanian suspect initially began insulting one of the Austrian victims in the rest stop’s restroom after noticing his religious attire.
The confrontation continued outside in the parking lot, where the 47-year-old Romanian joined in. The altercation escalated, with one of the Austrians being spat on, his glasses broken, and his mobile phone damaged. The suspects also retrieved an iron pipe from their car, according to the police report.
The Hungarian police condemned the antisemitic nature of the attack, stressing that such acts of hatred should not go unpunished.
