Liberation ceremony in Mauthausen

Thousands of people commemorated the liberation of the 78th anniversary of the concentration camp by the US Army last weekend.

Delegations from all over the world, the Austrian government, opposition political parties, the Jewish community of Vienna (IKG), and other civil society organisations participated in the commemoration. Many Jewish youth groups were also present.

IKG President celebrated on Facebook the active and important role of Jewish youth in the ceremony: “Over 100 Jewish youngsters took part in the liberation celebration in Mauthausen, setting an example of what active commemoration means. During the event, Jewish youth stressed the importance of civil courage and reiterated their commitment to stand up for the fight against antisemitism. I am proud of our youth, this is our future!”
