381 antisemitic incidents reported in Austria in the first half of 2022

From January 1 to June 30, 2022, 381 antisemitic incidents were reported to the Antisemitism Reporting Office of the Jewish Community Vienna (IKG).

32 percent fewer than in the same period of the previous year (562). A total of 965 antisemitic incidents were reported in 2021.

IKG President Oskar Deutsch said that “the decline in the total number of reported incidents is gratifying. A closer look reveals particular problems, however, because the number of threats and physical attacks is still at the same level of the previous year.”

The antisemitism report  attributes the majority of attacks on Jews in the first half of 2022 to ideology.

Accordingly, most of the incidents (201) had a right-wing extremist background, followed by left-wing (81) and Muslim (34) motives.

European Jewish Congress calls on EU and UN leaders to cease its one-sided Israel bashing that has direct consequences for Jews in Europe

“The constant flow of Israel-bashing by senior leaders in the EU and the UN with little to no criticism of Hamas terror is clearly the main contributory factor to huge growth in antisemitism recorded by all European Jewish communities since October 7 last year,” said EJC President Dr Ariel Muzicant.
