The European Jewish Congress Salutes EU and Israel for Upgrading Bilateral Relations

The European Jewish Congress (EJC) applauds the European Association Council and the State of Israel on the joint decision reached yesterday to upgrade bilateral relations between Israel and the European Union in Luxembourg.

This agreement is a significant and highly positive development in relations between the EU and Israel, which has at times been strained. It will cover core subjects of common interest to the EU and Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East, and will address a variety of sectors for developing partnerships; economy, trade, science, justice, culture, the environment, higher education and youth.
Since its establishment, the European Jewish Congress has served as a mediator between the EU and Israel, working to strengthen the ties between both parties by encouraging the European Union’s more active involvement in the Middle East and to channel Israel’s foreign policy to best assist relations with European nations.
