(Brussels, 6 March 2022) The European Jewish Congress (EJC) welcomes the latest conclusions by the Council of the European Union on the fight against racism and antisemitism.
The conclusions, adopted under the French Presidency of the Council, endorse the EU Strategy on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life and invite all EU Member States to develop national action plans on combatting antisemitism by the end of 2022.
“The latest conclusions reaffirm the fight against antisemitism and racism, and call on all relevant stakeholders to work closely together so that the existing strategies are implemented effectively,” said EJC President Dr Moshe Kantor.
“These efforts provide much-needed focus to addressing the challenges that Jewish communities in Europe are still facing today,” Dr. Kantor added, “to this end we endorse the call by the President of the Representative Council of French Jewish Institutions (CRIF), Francis Kalifat, President for a targeted French national strategy on combatting antisemitism that addresses all its specificities.”
“We are grateful to the French Presidency and to President Emmanuel Macron for their considerable efforts and their continued commitment to combatting antisemitism and fostering Jewish life in the EU,” Dr. Kantor concluded.
