(Brussels, October 7, 2024) – On the first anniversary of the brutal Hamas massacre on 7th October, the European Jewish Congress reaffirms its full and unwavering support for the State of Israel and its people, including those still held captive in the Gaza Strip.
As the only Jewish state fights for its survival on multiple fronts, we stand resolutely with it against the axis of terror led by the Islamic Republic of Iran, whose goal is the destruction of Israel, the Jewish people, and the very foundations of our Western civilisation.
In the aftermath of the deadliest attack on Jews since the Holocaust—when Israelis were slaughtered, raped, mutilated, and abducted—we call upon Europe and the global community to confront this evil and ensure that those responsible for these atrocities are held accountable. This is not only Israel’s fight: it is a fight for the defence of democracy and freedom against the tyrannical long hand of the Ayatollah.
The massacre unleashed by Hamas has not only claimed hundreds of innocent lives but has also dramatically increased antisemitism in Europe to unprecedented levels. Antisemitism has become normalised, hiding under the mantle of anti-Zionism, instilling fear and despair in Jewish communities.
As the official representative of 42 Jewish communities throughout Europe, we, the European Jewish Congress, call for urgent action from governments and institutions to denounce antisemitism in all its forms. We urge leaders to implement robust measures to protect Jewish communities and recognise the dangers of anti-Israel rhetoric to our societies.
We stand with our brothers and sisters in Israel as we mourn the victims of October 7th. We will never forget and never forgive. Am Yisrael Chai.
