(Brussels, July 17, 2025)– The calls for the resignation of Katharina von Schnurbein as the European Commission Coordinator on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life are unfounded, disgraceful, and based on false accusations and a misleading narrative.
They cause great harm to European Jewish communities by undermining one of their staunchest allies. For nearly ten years, Katharina von Schnurbein has been a tireless champion of Jewish life in Europe, standing with our communities during some of the most difficult moments — from the rise in antisemitism and terrorist attacks to increasing social polarisation.
She has played a vital role in advancing the EU Declaration on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life, the Council Conclusions, and the first-ever EU Strategy dedicated to this cause. Her commitment has translated into concrete policies, stronger protection, and broader recognition of the threats Jewish communities face.
In a time of rising antisemitism across Europe, especially since October 7th, when many Jews feel increasingly afraid and vulnerable, we must be able to count on leaders like Katharina von Schnurbein. We call for continued support for her work and reject any attempt to discredit her or weaken the fight against antisemitism in Europe.
