The European Jewish Congress deplores the recent defamatory statement by the Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko that Jews “don’t care” for the places they live in, and are responsible for neglect in both Belarus and in Israel.
“We are disturbed by what appears to be state antisemitism in Belarus” declared members of the EJC Executive.
The EJC also welcomes the strong statement from the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Ren van der Linden, condemning the Belarussian President’s antisemitic remarks.
The EJC also recalls that President Lukashenko is considered officially persona non grata by the European Union.
