The European Jewish Congress (EJC) expresses its condemnation of the desecration of a Jewish cemetery near Athens. The cemetery was vandalised by unknown individuals who smashed several marble headstones.

“Attacking the final resting places of members of the Athens Jewish community is a despicable and deplorable act,” said Dr. Moshe Kantor, President of the EJC. “We stand in solidarity with the Greek Jewish community after this cowardly and brazen attack.”

The Athens Jewish Community is organising a silent protest at the cemetery, on Sunday, May 13th, at 12:00 pm, mobilising all institutions and public authorities to join the event in order to make clear that antisemitism will not be tolerated.

Governmental officials, political parties, and public figures are expected to participate in this rally.
