EJC condemns torching of Jewish community ambulances in London

The incident comes alongside the broader pattern of recent attacks on a number of Jewish institutions across Europe, raising serious concerns about coordinated and ideologically driven violence.

Brussels, March 23 – The European Jewish Congress expresses its deep shock and anger after four ambulances belonging to a Jewish emergency service were set on fire and destroyed in the early hours of Monday morning in Golders Green, London.

Police have confirmed the incident is being treated as an antisemitic hate crime.

The vehicles, operated by a volunteer community ambulance service, were deliberately targeted by individuals who set them alight, triggering explosions from onboard gas canisters and causing damage to nearby buildings. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The incident comes alongside the broader pattern of recent attacks on a number of Jewish institutions across Europe, raising serious concerns about coordinated and ideologically driven violence.

EJC President, Dr. Moshe Kantor described the torching of ambulances as a particularly shocking escalation of attacks on Jewish communities.

“Targeting emergency medical vehicles, whose sole purpose is to save lives, represents a particularly disturbing escalation. This was not only an attack on Jewish property, but on a humanitarian service relied upon by the wider community,” Kantor said.

“We express our solidarity with the Hatzola organisation and the wider British Jewish community and call upon the authorities to act swiftly to identify those responsible and ensure the full protection of Jewish communities and essential services,” he added.
