EJC condemns desecration at Jewish Cemetery in Ukraine

The European Jewish Congress deplores the vandalism at the Jewish cemetery of Zhitomir, Ukraine.

On the night of Tuesday, April 15th, 2008 the cemetery was vandalized and in particular the tomb of the renowned Rabbi Aharon of Zhitomir.

According to the local community this is not the first time and no action has been taken to apprehend the criminals, despite numerous appeals to the local authorities.

EJC president Moshe Kantor has written to the President Yushenko to express his dismay and request that this situation be immediately rectified.
