(Sunday, 19 May 2019)The European Jewish Congress (EJC) applauds the German Bundestag ruling that the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement is antisemitic and calls on governmental bodies not to support or finance any organizations that support BDS or question Israel’s right to exist.
The Bundestag motion said a BDS campaign calling for Israeli products to be labeled with “Don’t Buy” stickers was reminiscent of the Nazi-era boycott of Jewish businesses, known in German as “Judenboykott”, which used slogans such as: “Don’t buy from Jews.”
The resolution further stated that “the pattern of argument and methods of the BDS movement are antisemitic,”, vowing not to fund any organizations that question Israel’s right to exist, call for a boycott of Israel or actively support BDS
“This is a very important and welcome ruling and reflects the reality that the BDS movement is antisemitic,” Dr. Moshe Kantor, EJC President, said. “BDS couches its language in humanitarian concerns but really it is just another hate organization and its agenda is to act towards the destruction of the State of Israel as it currently exists.”
“It is antisemitic to target Jews, the Jewish community and the Jewish right to self-determination in its ancestral homeland equally.”
“We hope that more European parliaments will follow suit and rule that BDS is antisemitic and should not be supported in any way.”
