EJC Vice-President Raya Kalenova and Director of European Affairs Ariella Woitchik participated in a meeting with European Union Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, whose portfolio includes the fight against antisemitism and the promotion of Jewish life in Europe.
The meeting, held alongside representatives of other Jewish organisations based in Brussels, focused on the alarming rise in antisemitism across the continent. Participants discussed pressing issues such as the security of Jewish communities, the surge in extremist rhetoric and violence, and the need to safeguard Jewish life and heritage in Europe. The exchange also underscored the importance of continued cooperation between EU institutions and Jewish communities to ensure a strong and coordinated response to these challenges.
During the discussion, EJC Vice-President outlined the challenges faced by Jewish communities across Europe and suggested areas of work and cooperation, especially regarding the fight against anti-Zionism and disinformation online.
Commissioner Magnus Brunner stated: “Standing up against antisemitism and hatred is not optional — it is a responsibility we all share to safeguard our democracy and core principles. The fight against antisemitism must be systematically included in EU policy, including security and countering extremism. I will raise these important security issues with national authorities.”
