EJC President Pierre Besnainou Meets Acting Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert

The President of the European Jewish Congress Pierre Besnainou met in Jerusalem with the Acting Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Tuesday, January 10th, to express his support to the new Israeli Cabinet formed as Ariel Sharon remains hospitalised.

President Besnainou delivered his hopes to the Acting Prime Minister that the upcoming general elections in March will be a step forward towards peace, and that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon will make a full recovery from his massive brain haemorrhage suffered last week.

While in Israel, the EJC President also visited Israeli Vice Premier Shimon Peres and Defence Minister Shaul Mofaz, to assure them of European Jewry’s confidence in the recent developments in the Israeli government.

On Friday, January 6th, President Besnainou joined French Jewish leaders and members of the community at the Paris Synagogue de la Victoire, after France’s Grand Rabbi, Joseph Haim Sitruk, summoned worshipers to offer their prayers for Mr. Sharon.
