The European Jewish Congress (EJC) held the first Executive Committee meeting of its 2025–2029 mandate under the leadership of President Dr Moshe Kantor. Leaders gathered to discuss recent developments, exchange best practices, and address the challenges ahead amid rising antisemitism across the continent.
In his opening remarks, Dr Kantor analysed the concerning situation for European Jews and updated members on his activities since being re-elected President of the organisation, including engagements with political leaders, community representatives, and international partners. He also briefed the Executive Committee on his past and upcoming meetings with key stakeholders, outlining future plans for the organisation and emphasising the need for greater cooperation among EJC communities during these difficult times.
EJC Executive Vice-President and CEO Raya Kalenova welcomed members of the Executive Committee, particularly the newly elected representatives who were chosen during the EJC’s General Assembly in Jerusalem in May 2025, wishing them every success in their new roles and highlighting the importance of their contributions to strengthening Jewish life in Europe.
Coordinating Committee of Belgian Jewish Organisations (CCOJB) President Yves Oschinsky and Central Council of Jewish Communities in Finland President Yaron Nadbornik were elected Vice-Presidents of the EJC, alongside the representatives of Europe’s largest Jewish communities, who hold the position automatically.
The Executive Committee confirmed Raya Kalenova as EJC Executive Vice-President and CEO, and reappointed Petr Papoušek, President of the Federation of Jewish Communities in the Czech Republic, as Treasurer for a new term.
During the meeting, held online, Executive Committee members provided updates on the situation in their respective countries, outlining community responses to rising antisemitism and the challenges they continue to face. They also set out strategic priorities for 2025, focusing on strengthening advocacy, enhancing security, supporting community engagement, and deepening cooperation with European institutions to safeguard Jewish life and culture.
Members of the EJC Executive Committee also agreed to appoint Faina Kukliansky, President of the Jewish Community of Lithuania, as Special Envoy of the Baltic Countries to the Executive, representing the interests of Jewish communities in the region and strengthening their engagement with the EJC.
