EJC Director of European Affairs Ariella Woitchik took part in the seventh meeting of the European Commission’s Working Group on the implementation of the EU Strategy on Combating Antisemitism and Fostering Jewish Life, held in Gdańsk, Poland.
The meeting was organised by the European Commission in cooperation with the Polish government under the framework of its Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Discussions focused on the state of play regarding the development of national strategies and action plans to combat antisemitism, Holocaust remembrance, and the growing challenges faced by Jewish communities in the wake of the Hamas terrorist attacks of 7 October.
The meeting gathered representatives of national Jewish communities, including those affiliated with the EJC, as well as international and civil society organisations, national ministries, and high-level officials from the European institutions.
Among the speakers were Deputy Minister of Justice Dariusz Mazur; European Commission Coordinator on Combating Antisemitism and Fostering Jewish Life Katharina von Schnurbein; and Hungarian Minister for European Affairs and Special Envoy for Combating Antisemitism János Bóka, among others.
As part of the programme, participants visited the Museum of the Second World War as well as the local synagogue.
