“Such attempts to single out individuals based on their identity create fear, fuel hatred, and place Jewish communities at greater risk,” the European Jewish Congress said in a statement.

“Remembering Alfred Dreyfus is important. Ensuring that Europe does not create the conditions for a new generation of Dreyfus cases is far more important still,” says EJC President Dr Moshe Kantor.

The EJC echoed the concerns expressed by the FCJE, saying “While we respect the independence of judicial authorities, political disagreements must be addressed through debate and argument, not through harassment, intimidation or efforts to silence individuals for expressing their views.”

The EJC says it is aligned with the Jewish Community of Lisbon (CIL) “in expressing its deep concern regarding the concert of Ye (Kanye West) at the Algarve Stadium”.

According to the Brussels-based EJC, Portugal “should follow the example” of countries such as the United Kingdom, France, Poland, Switzerland and Italy, where concerts scheduled by Kanye West were cancelled or postponed.

The European Jewish Congress strongly condemned Ben-Gvir for what it called his “disgraceful actions.”

“Romania is witnessing the dangerous return of old-fashioned antisemitism in some of its ugliest historic forms,” says Dr Moshe Kantor, president of the European Jewish Congress, the representative organisation of European Jewish communities.
