The leader of a far-right party with seats in the Slovak parliament was convicted of illegal use of neo-Nazi symbols and sentenced to four years and four months in prison.

On 9 September 2020, Slovakia commemorates the Memorial Day for Victims of the Holocaust and of Racial Violence. Established in 2000 by the Slovak Parliament, the day marks the date in 1941 when the Slovak government issued a decree on the legal status of Jews, the so-called the Jewish Codex.

Wearing masks to work within Slovakia’s coronavirus restrictions, volunteers have almost fully completed the restoration of the Jewish cemetery in Námestovo, Slovakia, which suffered a vandal attack in December 2019 that saw at least 60 headstones toppled.

More than 20 headstones were vandalised at a Jewish cemetery in northern Slovakia in the second such incident in the country in a week.
