In the latest sign of the warming ties between Israel and Morocco, an Israeli musical was performed in the North African country in Hebrew— a first for Morocco or any Arab country. “Bustan Sephardi” (“Spanish Orchard”) is a new version of the 1969 original play by the same title that depicted daily life in a Sephardic neighborhood of Jerusalem during the 1930s.

The fruits of the rapprochement between Israel and swathes of the Arab world continued to ripen this week, with Morocco becoming the first-ever Muslim country to inaugurate a synagogue at one of its universities.

A record of more than 2,000 members of the Moroccan Jewish community from across the world visited the Moroccan city of Essaouira to celebrate the Hiloula of Saint Rabbi Haim Pinto after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
