Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece expresses concern over series of antisemitic incidents in the country

The Board called on the Greek State to take all necessary measures to ensure the protection of citizens and visitors from all forms of racist and antisemitic violence and to bring the perpetrators before the Greek courts.

The Central Jewish Council of Greece (KISE) has condemned efforts by far-left groups to organise “anti-Zionist patrols” in Thessaloniki, describing similarities to antisemitic attacks which took place in the same city 95 years ago.

The objects were stolen from synagogues in Thessaloniki by the Einsatzstab Reichsleiter Rosenberg, a Nazi agency dedicated to looting Jewish property.
Samidoun is widely described by governments and security experts as a front organisation linked to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a designated terrorist organisation.
KIS highlighted that journalist Sakis Moumtzis “is recognized as a strong opponent of antisemitism” and that his participation was intended to reinforce the educational and commemorative purpose of the event.
“Given the rampant rise in antisemitism across Europe, it is heartening to see how Greek textbooks present Judaism, Jewish traditions and the tragedy of the Holocaust with depth, thought and respect,” said IMPACT-se CEO, Marcus Sheff.
“The streets of Athens and other cities are filled with slogans calling for the destruction of the state of Israel, for the mass murder of Israeli citizens and Jews who defend the Zionist idea, namely Israel’s right to exist as an equal member of the community of nations” said their statement.
Local police were contacted, and a friend who had stayed at their rental apartment arranged a taxi to collect those in hiding. Police later escorted the teens back to the apartment.
