Hundreds march to Thessaloniki’s old train station, where expulsion began; approximately 46,000 were taken to death camp in 1943, just 1,950 survived.

The city’s documentary film festival is paying tribute to Jews killed during the Holocaust and to the Jewish community’s enduring importance to the city.

Greece’s parliament has banned a far-right political party led by a jailed former lawmaker from participating in the general election later this year. Ilias Kasidiaris, is serving a 13-year prison sentence for being a former leading member of Golden Dawn, a political party of neo-Nazi origins.

A mural commemorating the deportation of Jews from Thessaloniki to Nazi death camps during World War II has been defaced for the second time. The Greek Jewish Community called upon the authorities to take all necessary measures in order to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

A monument on the campus of Thessaloniki’s Aristotle University (AUT), which commemorates a Jewish cemetery destroyed by the Nazis in 1942, was targeted again by vandals. The perpetrators sprayed a red swastika on the central marble commemorative plaque that symbolizes the cemetery.

The Jewish Synagogue of Trikala has been inaugurated with the presence of members of Jewish Communities of around the world.
