The President of the European Jewish Congress Pierre Besnainou met in Jerusalem with the Acting Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Tuesday, January 10th, to express his support to the new Israeli Cabinet formed as Ariel Sharon remains hospitalised

The President of the European Jewish Congress Pierre Besnainou attended a Barcelona football match on November 29th, between a joint team of Israeli and Palestinian players against the Spanish team FC Barcelona, in the presence of Shimon Peres and various Israeli and Palestinian personalities.

In Tunisia for the World Summit on the Information Society, European Jewish Congress President Pierre Besnainou met on November 17th with the Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, in the presence of the Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs Nabil Shaath, discussing Palestinian commitments to continue paving the way for peace talks with Israeli authorities.

In a joint action organized by the European Jewish Congress, synchronized protests took place in European capitals during the week of October 31st, demonstrating against the Iranian President's recent statement that Israel "should be wiped off the map.”

On October 11th the EJC President Pierre Besnainou met with leaders from the major political parties in the European Parliament in Brussels to discuss exciting developments in Europe's only democratically elected body.

Insuring that the European Union (EU) is fully informed on the human rights situation in both Bulgarian and Romania, a small EJC delegation met with the EU Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn to discuss the planned ascension of these two countries
