On October 11th the EJC President Pierre Besnainou met with leaders from the major political parties in the European Parliament in Brussels to discuss exciting developments in Europe's only democratically elected body.

Insuring that the European Union (EU) is fully informed on the human rights situation in both Bulgarian and Romania, a small EJC delegation met with the EU Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn to discuss the planned ascension of these two countries

European Jewish Congress (EJC) President Pierre Besnainou updated European and world leaders on important issues for European Jewry during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, meeting on Thursday the 15th of September with Latvian President Vaira Vike-Freiberga, the Council of Europe Secretary-General Terry Davis and the Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov.

In Budapest to attend the 8th Jewish Heritage Festival, European Jewish Congress (EJC) President Pierre Besnainou met with the Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsani on September 5th, 2005, to discuss the recent as well as upcoming enlargement of the European Union, and emergence of extremist political parties in the region.

The EJC Chairman of the Board of Governors Moshe Kantor met with the President of Latvia, Vaira Vike-Freiberga, regarding her further commitments to remembrance of the Holocaust through the education of future generations

Taking immediate action on two worrying developments concerning the far-right in Europe, the European Jewish Congress held separate meetings with the Ambassadors of Greece and Bulgaria to the European Union, in Brussels, July 25th.
